Amazing Technology Invented by MIT

At the MIT Media Lab, the Tangible Media Group has proved that the future of computing is connected with a sense of touch. Unveiled in mid-November, 2013, this new tech is a new scrying pool for those who wish to imagine the interfaces of the coming days.

Called as the inFORM by the developers, the new tech is a surface that changes shapes 3-dimensionally, allowing users to not only interact with the digital contents, but also hold hands with a person far away. And, that is only the beginning!

Created by Daniel Leithinger and Sean Follmer and overseen by Professor Hiroshi Ishii, the technology behind the inFORM isn't that hard to understand. It's basically a fancy Pinscreen, one of those executive desk toys that allows you to create a rough 3-D model of an object by pressing it into a bed of flattened pins. With inFORM, each of those "pins" is connected to a motor controlled by a nearby laptop, which can not only move the pins to render digital content physically, but can also register real-life objects interacting with its surface thanks to the sensors of a hacked Microsoft Kinect.

All European Newborn Babies Will be Microchipped From May 2014

Circulating report claims that from May 2014, all newborn babies born in Europe will be implanted with a subcutaneous RFID chip that will include a GPS that can be linked to a satellite.

Public clinics in the European Union are to be alerted. The chip in inquiry will be contributed with the report sheet on the newborn.  This chip will also be an impressive GPS sensor that will task with a micro- disposable battery every 2 years in state clinics. GPS chip grants an edge of error of 5 meters, as a statement that it is excellent.  It will be linked straight to a satellite, which will guide the networks.

As forecasted, this chip will be essential for all kids born after May 2014 , but with a present confirmation date until December 2016.

Here's a detailed analysis of this news:

Social media feeds and email inboxes are currently being inundated by a supposed news report that claims that all babies born within the European Union will be implanted with a subcutaneous RFID chip beginning in May 2014.

The report claims that the implanted chips will contain GPS technology that allow a direct connection to a satellite. Supposedly, public clinics in Europe are being alerted about the new requirements and a "report sheet" for each microchipped baby will be provided.

But, of course, the claims in the message are utter nonsense. The report is pure fiction with not even the most tenuous connection to the truth. Babies in Europe - or anywhere else in the world - are not set to receive mandatory microchipping.

It is a little unclear which website first published the report. However, the first version that I encountered was published on Nuooz.com, the European website that specializes in publishing false information disguised at news.

The site churns out fictional and fanciful stories in French and English and presents them as news articles. The report was also published on the "news" aggregation website TopInfoPost. TopInfoPost specializes in publishing made-up conspiracy theory nonsense disguised as news.

For the record, there are no reports confirming the claims in any credible news publication. If the information were true, the story would be front-page news all around the world.

Predictably, the report has invigorated long running - and equally ridiculous – US based conspiracy theories that have long claimed that the United States government is planning on microchipping all its citizens so that they can be tracked and controlled.

Drivel such as this does nothing but clog the interwebs and needlessly cause fear and outrage among the gullible and those hapless and fear-ridden individuals who see conspiracy around every darkened corner.

According to About.com writer David Emery, who specializes in debunking hoaxes, “There are no laws currently on the books in any European country requiring newborns to receive microchip implants.”

There’s been other fake stories about RFID chip implants, including one from satire news site National Report, which said they’ll be required to sign up for Obamacare in some places.

Samsung will sell 400 Million Smartphones, 65 Million Tablets and 60 Million TVs in 2014

According to the Korean newspaper sources, Samsung Electronics is going to sell 400 million smartphones , 65 million tablets and 60 million flat-panel TVs in 2014. South Korean electronics giants had held an event between 17 and 20 Dec to share with their supervisors' business units in 2014.

The event invited 500 employees of units of consumer electronics and mobile communications , as well as 150 employees of the division Device Solution. During the meeting, they discussed the state of the market and the means of achieving business goals in 2014.

Samsung seems to be making 2014 a significant bet on sporting events like the Olympic Winter Games in Russia and the World Cup in Brazil. The Company expects that it will increase sales of TVs for 5 million units, compared to the current year's sales record and 29-30 % increase in the sales of smartphone. The electronics giants are looking forward to selling about 400 million smartphone; the sales figure of smartphones in 2013 was around 320 million.

The manufacturer, set out to circumvent Apple’s tablet, is going to the market to sell 65 million tablets. If all goals are achieved, the total sales of Samsung Electronics and operating profit should jump to $138.4 billion from $130.9 billion in 2013. But, the operating profit may decline slightly to $23.4 billion in 2014 versus $24.6 billion in 2013.

The source notes that some Samsung insiders fear that the goals will not be fulfilled due to unfavorable market conditions. But, the official representatives of Samsung are confident that the company’s leading position in the market and in the production of components will help them maintain the market share and profitability at a high level. Additionally, to strengthen its position in the mobile market, Samsung has recently announced the merging units to produce cameras and mobile devices.

Peugeot Board to Examine Chinese Capital Boost Plans

French carmaker PSA Peugeot Citroen's board is set to review different formulas and techniques for the French state and China's Dongfeng to become the company's major shareholders.

According to the two sources familiar with the plan, several possible cases are put on the table on how to carry out the capital hike of around 3.5 billion euros ($4.7 billion). Peugeot is currently Europe's second-largest carmaker, and has been looking to secure a stronger beachhead in the car market by shoring up its finances.

The first and the most likely scenario under consideration would have had the French state and Dongfeng each deliver 1 billion euros to PSA. The Peugeot family holds 38 percent of the votes in the company, and the board informs that the remaining 1.5 billion would be offered publicly without involving the family.

According to one of the sources, a new consideration would have the French state, Dongfeng and the Peugeot family each invest the same amount, and the rest of the shares would be offered publicly.

The source states that the most likely amount each of the three would have to spend was 500 million euros. After the increase in market share, they each would possess a stake of 12 to 15 percent in the company.

Le Monde was first to report this consideration saying that the banks advising Peugeot believe it can place between 1.5 and 2 billion euros of shares on the market.

Dongfeng, for its part, has been observing the sensible reasoning of taking the stake in the company. Last month, it signed a $1.3 billion joint venture agreement with Renault, a move that would give Dongfeng a manufacturing presence in China after nearly a decade of not assembling vehicles there.

The outcome of last Sunday's board meeting was not certain, but the news helped increase Peugeot's share price, which jumped 2.2 percent to close at 11.48 euros.

Rockstar Targets Cheaters in GTA Online

GTA 5

After several weeks of online cheating in GTA Online that included counterfeiting in-game currency through exploits, Rockstar Games has announced that it will begin to take corrective measures to punish players who are found actively involved in cheating and other balance-breaking exploits.

GTA Online is currently undergoing maintenance, and the developers' team is now working to fix the exploits gamers have found. According to the studio, the game should be running normally by January 17.

Earlier this January, Rockstar was reported to be looking to create a Sandbox version of GTA 5 Online where money means nothing in the game and everything purchasable will be made available for free. Rumors had it that the Sandbox Los Santos would be the suitable place for hackers and cheaters, where they could simply enter the game online and start a riot at random time and places. This was meant to minimize the infinite money hack concerns and reduce the number of players being thrown into the cheater's lobby in the existing GTA Online.

In the Sandbox GTA Online mode, players can get in a tank and fight against the police. For more action and fun, there's a parking lot with every car, and on the international airport players can pilot all planes, except the big cargo planes. So, everything is available and everything is free!

There are no missions or jobs to do in the sandbox version of the game, so it's like GTA 5 Offline with only street races. Players can't save the game in online mode, and each player is his/her own online character. Friends can join the sandbox version, but strangers are disallowed.

Also last month, Rockstar Games released a new GTA 5 patch that apparently fixed some problems and prevented hackers and cheaters from creating custom lobbies where gamers could earn an infinite amount of in-game currency within a short period of time. The 1.08 patch released a week after that fixed concerns regarding the duplication of vehicles, which players could sell again and again for an infinite sum of cash.

It's a bit funny that GTA Online, the game built around thefts, murders and other criminal behaviors, is needing regulations and corrective measure for committing a "crime". Rockstar Games has realized that people cheated on the game simply because they wanted money to play with their friends in their own way. Players wanted to buy everything purchasable, revamp some cool cars or do nice little tricks with shotguns and miniguns.

GTA 5

The company has not mentioned what the punishments will be, but those receiving a massive amount of counterfeit money may have it removed from their account. In a support article published earlier this month, the GTA Online developer also urged those who are not involved in willful hacking or cheating to not get caught up in the company's effort to separate out hackers from rest of the population. It seems that expending and obtaining bounties containing the illegal in-game currency won't be classified as modding and cheating either. Overall, if you find anyone knowingly cheating or hacking, Rockstar is asking you to report them immediately through the in-game menu.

Here's the full statement published by Rockstar:

"In recent weeks, a small number of Grand Theft Auto Online players sought to exploit the game by generating and distributing game-breaking amounts of in-game cash, disrupting the experience for other players.

We will continue to issue title updates on an ongoing basis to counter the negative impact this has had on gameplay, and as part of today’s maintenance period, we are removing the counterfeit GTA$ from the game's economy. Anyone that innocently received GTA$ as a result of these exploits but did not engage in cheating to acquire it will not face any further action - the funds will just be removed , and you'll be able to keep any items you currently own.

Those who actively engaged in cheating and exploiting the game in this manner will, however, be subject to in-game penalties at our discretion. This may include being placed in isolated cheater pools or banned from GTA Online altogether.

Should you ever encounter someone in GTA Online that appears to be taking advantage of exploits in your session, we ask that you alert us directly via the in-game reporting functionality. In the Pause menu, under the Online tab, select Players and scroll to the offending player. From there, select Report and choose Exploits from the violation options.

We're grateful for the community's continued support in dealing with these issues and once again apologize to anyone that has had their Grand Theft Auto Online experience sullied by these exploits that broke the game's natural flow. Please stay tuned for lots more news about GTA Online in the weeks ahead."

GTA 5

The counterfeiting in-game currency issues were increasing in "GTA Online", and fans had reported through various social web sites that hackers and cheaters had ruined their experience of the open-action worldwide adventure game. Many players were frustrated with the overall competitiveness of the game as it became substantially uninteresting due to cheating.

In GTA 5 Online, users can buy DLC cash card to covert real money into in-game currency. So, the overall counterfeiting issues could severely hurt Rockstar Games financially as gamers need not purchase the optional packs to play the game in multiplayer mode online.

GTA 5 has been available on Sony's PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 since September 17. Rockstar Games had released the "GTA Online Multiplayer" mode on October 1.

Woman Scammed Out of $300,000 on Christian Mingle Online Dating Scam

According to the ABC news affiliate KGO-TV, a 66-year old San Jose woman has been duped out of  $300,000 by a Nigerian man who used an online dating site profile to lure her.

Claiming to be an Irish citizen by the name of David Holmes, the man started talking to the woman through the dating site ChristianMingle.com. The victim in her mid-60s was a divorcee, and was looking for companionship. She thought she met a nice man on the dating site, but he turned out to be a crook. Now, the woman is putting her shame aside, and is trying to prevent another person from falling prey in similar fashion.

Here's what she said:

"This individual seemed very interested in my life situations. Came across as a strong Christian person, prayed with me.

I got stranded in a city with a dead battery and this individual stayed with me, I believe it was 90 minutes making sure I was safe cause he said he wouldn't want no woman of his to ever be in a situation without help."

This woman does not want to be identified. Also, one doesn't need to know who she is to learn from what happened to her.

The relationship initially went on from communicating, chatting through the dating site to emails, text messages, phone calls and even flower deliveries. Then the Nigerian man, who initially claimed to work on a Scottish oil rig, turned a need for money (a few thousand dollars) to pay off his daughter's tuition fee. She wanted to help and tried to be smart about it, getting the required bank account information and paperwork on all the transactions.

The scammer further went on to request the woman to help fund his oil rig business. He went as far as creating a fake business website to convince the woman and legitimize his claim. According to authorities, the victim managed much of the $300,000 from her retirement account as well as refinancing her home.

Thankfully, by that time someone in her life intervened and contacted the authorities. The woman had by then wired an additional $200,000 as a second loan to help fund the Nigerian crook's oil rig business. The Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office was able to react in time to freeze the $200,000 transaction with the help of some Turkish banking authorities.

In addition, Turkish authorities were able to arrest an associate of the Nigerian scammer at the bank in question while he was trying to get the money. The Skype and email accounts used by “David Holmes” were traced back to a location in Nigeria. The victim got the $200,000 back, but it was less than half of what she lost.

Alerting the public about the incident, Deputy District Attorney Cherie Boulard said, “Don’t loan or invest money with anyone you have never met and only know from a dating website. It’s too easy to create a false identity, or steal someone else’s identity, and use it on an online dating service.”

"We all want to trust one another. I know in the olden days we used to do business on a handshake. That's just not possible anymore, not with international crimes that are going on", Boulard added.

The dating site "Christian Mingle" markets itself as "the online community created specifically for Christian singles looking to find friends, romance or marriage.” This is what the site ChristianMingle.com is about:

"ChristianMingle.com Where We Bring Christian Singles Together. At ChristianMingle.com we're more than just a site for Christian dating, we're a Christian personals community where you can find singles that share your values and love for God in Christ. We are always working to help you build a strong relationship with other Christian singles.

This is an ideal destination for Christian men and women to find friends, dates, and even soul mates, all within the faith......"

GTA 5 PC Release Date Hinted Again

GTA 5

Adding fuel to the rumors surrounding the release date for the PC version of "Grand Theft Auto 5", a source claims that the release date for the open-action worldwide adventure game on PC is set for March 12 this year; a clear release date for now is stalled by a graphics update that will go beyond the next-generation consoles.

On an interview with Nuveem, a Brazilian retailer, Codigo Fonte told that the release date has been confirmed, and it is set for March 12. This confirmation was later proven as well by Thiago Diniz, Nuveem's director of digital distribution of games, reports Techinews.

This confirmation comes in accordance to and proves the reports published earlier last month by The International Business Times and The South Axis. The two had wrote that they had received information that claimed the game would be released on mid-March, 2014, though several other rumors were stating the release date to be December 24, 2013.

While The International Business Times wrote that a Norwegian retailer's pre-order page said the game would be released on March 19, 2014, The Sixth Axis reported that an Amazon spokesperson had told them that the PC version would apparently be released in the U.S. on March 12, 2014, but it wasn't an official confirmation after all.

chat between amazon and a customer on GTA 5 PC release date

The graphics used in GTA 5's PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions were rivaled by that seen in GTA 4. So, for now fans around the world are left wondering that a sublime graphics update could possibly be the main reason for the delay of the game's PC version release date announcement, according to Product Reviews.

But this alleged release date of March 12 is unusual according to Fansided. The website said that the date falls on Wednesday, and Rockstar Games had usually released games on Tuesdays or Fridays.

Chris Evenden, the senior director of investor relations in Nvidia, stated earlier last August that a PC version of the highly anticipated game may officially be announced during the financial call. No official announcements were made since by either Amazon or Rockstar Games, so unfortunately gamers had to keep waiting for more information on this matter.

To date, over 900,000 people have signed an online petition asking Rockstar for the PC release of the latest entry in GTA series. Though the game developing company has recently remained silent about the PC release date, the company must have by now noticed the petition.

Some players and retailers have been saying that the computer version will not be released until GTA 5 is made available for Sony's PlayStation 4 and Microsoft's Xbox One. Rockstar Games does not seem to have made any progress on developing games for these new systems, and has also not made any announcements to even guarantee the existence of the PC version of its most popular game. The release plan of GTA 5's PC version now seems to mirror the same one used for GTA 4, which was first released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 before it was launched on PC the next December.

But for  now, more  evidences for  a PC  version  release are  being  suggested as  the  AMD  Catalyst Update would contain the GTA 5 executable binary, reports WCCF Tech. The website also added that the PC version could have both DX 11 and 2k Textures.

Earlier this January, the company made "GTA San Andreas" available on iOS, Android and Amazon Kindle  HDX  devices with  revamped,   high-resolution  graphics  including lighting  enhancements, enriched colour palette and refined character models.

Currently, "Grand Theft Auto 5" is available  for both PlayStation 3  and  Xbox 360. Though it's  still pending whether Rockstar Games will port GTA 5 to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, it seems fans who are eagerly anticipating the PC release will have to wait another two months or so.

Apple Fined by Taiwan's Fair Trade Commission for Price Restrictions

iphone5s Taiwan

Apple Inc. has been fined US$670,000 (20 million New Taiwan dollars) by Taiwan's Fair Trade Commission (FTC) for interfering and restricting the prices charged by local mobile service providers and handset distributors, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The commision said that the Cupertino-based company had been instructing Taiwan's top three mobile service providers on how to price the iPhone, a move that was against the article 18 of Taiwan's Fair Trade Act.

This was the statement made by the commission:

"We've found the Cupertino-based company violating article 18 of Taiwan’s Fair Trade Act by telling Taiwan’s three main mobile service providers/distributors how much to sell iPhones for. Apple has asked Chunghwa Telecom Co., Taiwan Mobile Co. and Far Eastone Telecommunication Co. to adjust rates.

Through the email correspondence between Apple and these three telecom companies we discovered the companies submit their pricing plans to Apple to be approved or confirmed before the products hit the market.
The U.S. computer company has no right to interfere in companies’ iPhone pricing plans after selling them distribution rights. The three carriers can distribute or resell iPhones at their complete discretion after paying Apple for those rights."

Apple fined in TaiwanThe tech giant had asked Far Eastone Telecommunication Co, Taiwan Mobile Co. and Chunghwa Telecom to adjust the  rates. The three  companies  were found to submit Apple their pricing plans  through email  correspondence to  be approved before  the  products  were  sold  by  local  handset  distributors,  according  to a statement by FTC.

Apple has also been warned that it may face a more substantial charge if it doesn't  stop restricting the local firms' iPhone pricing. While Apple had sold distribution rights to local mobile  service providers and mobile phone distributors, it had no  such rights  to pressure the local  firms on the  adjustment of pricing rates.

Apple can appeal if it wishes but this may extend the current fine to NT$50 million if it fails to comply with the initial ruling, the commission said.
